The Buie Plantation is located near Red Springs about 130 miles southeast of Charlotte, 92 miles south of Raleigh and 90 miles west of Wilmington, NC. The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, with a student population of 5600, is located 10 minutes from the plantation and Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, one of the largest military bases of the country, is only 40 minutes away. Pinehurst and it’s world-class golf courses is available in 50 minutes. Carolina Horse Park, the home of the annual Southern Pines Horse Trials and the Stonybrook Steeplechase is 30 minutes west of the Buie plantation. Some of the most beautiful beaches on the east coast such as Southport, Bald Head Island, Caswell Beach, Oak Island, Holden Beach, Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach are less than 2 hours away.
The property has approximately 3563 feet of road frontage on NC HWY 72 and 6000 feet on Buie Philadelphus Road.
This property is accessible via the local Lumberton Municipal Airport and commercial air service is present at the Fayetteville Regional Airport 40 minutes to the north. Wilmington International Airport is located at Wilmington, with 17 daily flights to the Charlotte, Philadelphia and Atlanta hubs. Directly on Interstate 95, Robeson County is at the mid point between Boston and Miami.
The Carolina Commerce and Technology Center, Inc. (COMtech) began operation in January 2001. Surrounded by 620 acres zoned for business and industry, the site in central Robeson County, North Carolina, in the vortex of I-95 (N-S) and HWY 74 (E-W) about 10 minutes from the plantation, will be the home of technology-focused business, industry, education, training and business incubation facilities.
The Southeastern Regional Medical Center(SRMC) with the Southeastern Heart Center managed by the Duke University Health System employing approximately 2000 people is located in nearby Lumberton. The fate of the Lumbee Recognition Act is in the hands of the Senate. A congressional committee agreed by voice vote to forward the bill that would bring millions of dollars in federal aid to the Lumbee Tribe. The bill passed without any changes. Federal officials estimate that $77 million a year could come into Robeson County, where a majority of the Lumbees live.
